Community-Word Project (CWP) is a New York City-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering students, teaching artists, and communities through culturally responsive, multidisciplinary arts education. Founded in 1997 by Executive Director Michele Kotler, CWP was inspired by her personal experiences overcoming educational challenges through the transformative power of the arts. Recognizing the profound impact creative expression can have on learning, CWP integrates creative writing, visual arts, and performance into public school curricula, particularly in under-resourced neighborhoods where students face systemic inequities.​

CWP's mission is to facilitate programs that help individuals develop and amplify their voices and creative skills. By championing the power of individual and collective voice, CWP continues to inspire and equip communities to envision and create meaningful change through the arts.
