HDTS, co-founded in 2002 by artist Andrea Zittel, locates contemporary art in a rural setting, far from inner-city art centers, and demonstrates an ongoing engagement with the local population and landscapes. The organization is based at A-Z West, Zittel’s 80-acre Joshua Tree compound that functions as an ongoing investigation into what it means to exist and participate in our culture today.
